What is Fashion Design?
What is Fashion Design?

Fashion design is the creative process that is applied to the creation of clothing and accessories. A fashion designer conceives a garment combining line, proportion, color and texture. A fashion designer should always consider the person or consumer who will wear the garment. There are three main fashion markets; First Haute Couture is made to specific measurements for a client. Haute Couture clothing has more hand stitching, higher quality of fabric and is more expensive. Secondly, Ready to wear clothes is not created for individuals or the mass market. They are exclusive made in small quantities and they can be expensive also. Thirdly, the largest group catering to a wide range of clients is the mass market. These garments are made from less expansive materials, and sewing machines. In this group is where you find your trendier garments.

Fashion designers design for women’s day and evening wear, men’s day and evening wear, children’s and kid’s wear, outerwear, resort and bridal wear. Fashion design is influenced by culture and society. During the 1960’s there was a youth explosion that was followed by the mod and hippie look. Hair and jewelry was big. Make-up colors and application was bold. Classics are styles that never go out of style. Classics are styles that never go out of style.
